Belly of the Sea is a multimedia installation that takes the form of a large fish’s abdominal skeleton resting deep in the oceanic vastness of the desert. Through sound, imagery, and movement, the work immerses the viewer in memories related to the sky, the ocean, the desert, and the descent. This piece recreates the artist’s encounter with rocket debris found in the desert, while also metaphorically evoking the ascent of rockets and the sinking of fish—two different carbon pathways. They represent “carbon release” and “carbon sequestration” respectively, forming a contrasting ecological philosophy and physical process in the vertical dimension.
