Manufacturing, video installation & performance, Cantonese & English Voice Over),

There is no doubt that the early 90s is a special time period for the Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region, which it became the forefront of the national economic arena. It was also the national factory for China when it was the world factory.

It must mean something to me, who was also born in the early 90s.

This work begins with one of my old photos, a family portrait that includes a doll sitting with me. Like everything else in our life, the doll was made at that time by the manufacturing industry.

The installation was set in a room inside a gallery space, and the video was projected on the glass of the window. The installation begins with a 90s disco dance when I was dancing inside the room, the shadow of my silhouette showed on the window where the video came later. My performance began inside the room. Then I came out of the room at one point and dance outside with the disco music again.

The phenomenon of manufacturing industries’ development and consumerism was introduced in the video. I am also trying to break the frame of cinema and reality through my performance. The playful dance becomes a self-relief for me and the people I mentioned in the video, as well as a satire for the consumer society.

It will become a longer and more complete piece in the future.
